Tony Leitner is currently a securities and futures regulatory consultant with his firm A J Leitner and Associates, LLC, organized after Tony retired from Goldman, Sachs & Co. in November, 2003. He joined the Legal Department of Goldman Sachs in October, 1979 and became Goldman’s first futures lawyer. In the course of his 24-year career at Goldman, Tony counseled virtually every area of the firm’s businesses. From 1993 to 1998 he coordinated the Legal Department’s Derivatives Practice Group. In January 1998 he became the Senior Attorney for the Equities Division and in January 1999 he was appointed General Counsel of the Equities Division and became a Managing Director in November 1999.
Tony served as a member of NASDAQ’s Legal Advisory Committee and currently serves on NASDAQ’s Listing and Hearings Council. Tony also serves on a number of bar associations and industry committees. He was co-chair of the SIA’s Ad Hoc Regulation T Committee and co-chair of the SIA/FIA Security Futures Steering Committee’s Legal & Regulatory Sub-Committee. He is currently a member of the CFTC’s Technology Advisory Committee.
He received a B.A. from Columbia College in 1965 and a Juris Doctor from Northwestern University School of Law in 1969. He practiced corporate and international law at Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle from October, 1969 until he joined Goldman Sachs. In 2002 Tony received a Distinguished Leadership Award from the Securities Industry Association.
