FIA Energy Forum
September 14, 2011
New York Marriott Marquis

This one-day conference will bring together high-level industry experts for an in-depth and forward-looking discussion of the impact of the Dodd-Frank law on the energy derivatives markets. The conference program includes both high-level assessments of the potential changes in market structure and focused discussions of specific rules and their practical impact on traders, risk managers, and corporate hedgers. The conference will also provide numerous opportunities for attendees to network with peers from oil producers, power and natural gas companies, swaps dealers, futures brokers, trading platforms, exchanges and other market participants.

Topics:

Countdown to Compliance:  an overview of recent developments at the CFTC, including the issuance of final rules on manipulation and swaps clearing, proposed rules on clearing documentation, and the exemptive orders that delayed the effective date for several important provisions of the Dodd-Frank Act until the end of the year.

Keynote Speech: CFTC Commissioner Scott O’Malia will give his perspective on the rule-making process and the technological challenges facing the CFTC.

The Deep Dive: a panel of industry experts will discuss the pending rules that are likely to have the biggest impact on the energy markets, such as position limits, the end-user exemption, and the requirements for trading on swap execution facilities. The panelists also will discuss what steps their firms are taking internally to comply with the new requirements, such as building new systems to report large trader positions.

SEF Showcase: a panel of trading venue executives will discuss how they are preparing for the post-Dodd-Frank world of electronic trading and mandatory clearing.

The Big Picture: a panel of industry veterans discuss how the energy markets are likely to evolve post-Dodd-Frank. Confirmed panelists:  Michael Cosgrove (GFI), Ron Oppenheimer (Vitol), Craig Pirrong (Univ Houston).
