Gene G. DeMaio is the Vice President and Deputy Director of the NASD Amex Regulation Division. Mr. DeMaio leads a surveillance team consisting of over 90 staff members who monitor compliance with Amex and SEC rules by specialists, floor brokers, registered options traders and "upstairs" member firms. Specifically, his team regulates trading activity in equities, options, exchange traded funds, and structured products. Mr. DeMaio's responsibilities include reviewing compliance with Regulation SHO, specialist's order handling responsibilities, COATS compliance and fraud/manipulation in addition to other rules and regulations. Mr. DeMaio is actively working on the development of a Regulation NMS program for the Amex. Prior to working at NASD, Mr. DeMaio served as Legal Counsel to the Chief Regulatory Officer of the Amex. Before beginning his career as a regulator, Mr. DeMaio was an options market maker for Triple J Trading at the Amex.
Mr. DeMaio earned his J.D. at Fordham Law and his LL.M in Corporate Law at New York University. He earned his B.S. in accounting from Fordham University's College of Business Administration.
