YEONG-HO WOO
President, Futures Market Division
Korea Exchange

Dr. Yeong-Ho Woo was inaugurated as the President of the Futures Market Division at Korea Exchange (KRX), the newly consolidated exchange of Korea (January 2005). Before he assumed his current position, he worked for approximately 10 years as the vice president of Korea Securities Research Institute (KSRI), a major think-tank specializing in providing policy guidelines and research for developing capital markets as well as derivatives markets in Korea.

At the KSRI, Dr. Woo has participated in various important research projects such as the Blueprint on the Financial Liberalization and Market Opening (1993), Reform of Securities Industry (1995), and Modification of the M&A Regulations (1996). He has also served as a special fellow on the Presidential Committee for the Financial Reform in 1997.

He also has implemented two projects, "Capital Market Demand Study: Diagnosis and Action Plans" (1999-2000) with both the Korean government and the World Bank, and "Study on Development of the Government Bond Market in Korea"(2000) with the Asian Development Bank.

Related to derivatives markets, he has been serving as a member of the Futures and Options Market Development Committee. Dr. Woo was particularly instrumental in launching the KOSPI 200 futures and options markets and has played a key role in the success of the both markets.

He studied Business Administration at the Seoul National University and obtained a Ph.D. in Finance from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1988.
