Member Types
Regular members of the FIA are futures commission merchants. We estimate that our FCM members are responsible for more than 85 percent of the customer business transacted on U.S. futures exchanges. Both global brokerage firms and specialty futures-only firms benefit from membership in the FIA.

Associate members* include U.S. and international exchanges and clearinghouses, introducing brokers, commodity trading advisors, commodity pool operators, principal trading firms, commercial end-users, custodial banks, legal and accounting firms, technology vendors, and information providers headquartered in the U.S. and abroad.

*Any person, partnership, association or corporation directly or indirectly associated with the commodity futures business, international or domestic, other than an FCM eligible for election as a regular member, or any person, partnership, association or corporation whose primary business purpose is the solicitation, recruitment or placement of executives, representatives, agents, brokers or other employees, shall be eligible for election as an associate member of the Association provided that such person or the principals of such partnership, association or corporation are of good business reputation.
