Privacy Policy

The Futures Industry Association (the “FIA”) respects the privacy of its members and visitors to its web site. Personal information, such as E-mail addresses and other volunteered information are generally kept confidential. FIA is related to several other organizations and we may occasionally share Personal and aggregated information with, including but not limited to, the Institute for Financial Markets; FIA Technology Services; FIA Asia, and also shares information with its service providers, such as our credit card processor and hosting company. 

This data collection policy is only a description of the FIA’s general data collection practices. This is not a description about, nor is it binding with respect to how the FIA gathers and treats data collected through any of the systems offered for the convenience of the community, such as, but not limited to the EGUS or EGAINS services.  Separate documentation governs the information collection practices associated with such services. 

Cookies /  Google Analytics
As with most web sites, the futuresindustry.org website uses small pieces of code called “cookies” to log certain information from each visitor to the site.  We log which files are being accessed and the time of day. This information is used to help measure traffic to different parts of our Web site, improve our content, offer members-only discounts and content, and prevent malicious activity. "Cookies" are used as part of this process. This data is not personal to you and is gathered only on an aggregated basis.  

Visitors to this website who have Javascript enabled are tracked using Google Analytics. Google Analytics collects the following types of information from users: type of user agent (web browser) used, software manufacture and version number; type of operating system; color processing ability of the users screen; Javascript support; Flash version; screen resolution; network location and IP address. May also include country, city, state, region, county, or any other geographic data; hostname; bandwidth (internet connection speed); time of visit; pages visited; time spent on each page of the website; referring site statistics; the website URL the user came through in order to arrive at this website (example: clicking on a hyperlink from Yahoo.com that took the user to this website); search engine query used (example: typing in a phrase into a search engine like Google, and clicking on a link from that search engine).  

This data is primarily used to optimize our website for our visitors, however we will use this data for internal marketing purposes. An example of how this data could be used for marketing purposes would be to tell potential advertisers how many visitors we get to the website, where our visitors come from, and how they arrive at our website.

 We gather your personal information so we can: (i) contact you and fulfill our obligations as a member-driven association (ii) process your transactions, such as registration for conferences, fulfill your purchase requests, or provide you with an FIA publication or news alert; (iii) manage all billing processes; (iv) provide member account servicing; (v) offer you other related products and services; (vi) support FIA’s legal compliance obligations.  

2. What Personal Information We Collect and How We Collect It
During the course of our relationship we collect personal information when you apply for membership with the FIA or an affiliate, when you register or subscribe to an FIA or FIA affiliate event or publication, or when your volunteer for activities within the FIA or its affiliates.  We may ask you to provide the following types of personal or business information: your name, address, title, firm, e-mail, phone, and mobile phone numbers; credit and financially related information that FIA receives as payment for events and memberships; what events you have attended in the past; and information that describes what kind of work you do and where you are in the hierarchy of your organization. We  also collect credit card or wire information if the transaction requires it.  

3. Confidentiality and Security
 Within FIA and our related organizations, we restrict access to your personal information to those employees who need to know that information.. We have established physical, technical and administrative security processes that are commensurate with the sensitivity of the information collected to safeguard your information. Recognizing that technology is continually developing, FIA implements new procedures and technology improvements on an ongoing basis to further safeguard your personal information.  

4. What Information We Disclose
Your personal information is primarily disclosed only to FIA and its related organizations. For example, certain FIA services may be provided to you through FIA’s affiliates, and it may be necessary to share your personal information with these affiliates.  

Should you attend an FIA conference or other event, we may share your business contact information with other attendees (as part of a registration list) and we may share your business contact information with third-party vendors who attend or sponsor our conferences.If you subscribe to one of our magazines or news outlets we may share with advertisers and/or our third-party editors aggregated statistical information about our subscribers and the ways in which they use our products and services. This information does not identify you personally. We use this information for market research purposes and to improve the quality of the products and services we offer. We reserve the right to disclose aggregated, non-personally identifiable information collected from our users to third parties for any purpose.  

FIA may also disclose your personal information to third parties in the normal course of business, including but not limited to: (i) membership directories and conference registration lists, (ii) payment networks, and the members of such networks; (iii) electronic funds transfer networks; (iv) clearing and settlement banks; (v) service companies that perform business operations for FIA, including but not limited to account statement preparation and mailing services; (vi) courts, independent auditors, law enforcement agencies and other governmental authorities, bodies or agencies in response to subpoenas, to prevent fraud, during the course of an audit or examination or as required by law; and (vii) collection agencies, credit reporting agencies, business credit bureaus or other parties associated in collecting any debt owed by the merchant to us.  

Service companies are also prohibited from using personal information for any reason other than to provide the specific products or services intended. FIA reserves the right to transfer personal information in connection with the sale of all or part of its business or assets.
